INDIANAPOLIS — A date has been set for an event dedicated to listening to active and former members of the military and their families, according to State Rep. John Bartlett (D-Indianapolis).

The Second Annual Indiana Military & Veterans Day will be held on the 2nd Floor of the Statehouse, 200 W. Washington St. [get a map], between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. (EDT) on Monday, Jan. 11, 2016.

Come learn about legislation being introduced in the 2016 Indiana General Assembly for military and veterans in Indiana. This event will also afford us the opportunity to share what can be done to assist in education, employment and other issues veterans face during and following their service.

At the Indiana Military & Veterans Day on Jan. 11, you will have the opportunity to meet your own state legislator and other legislators who vote on issues that matter to veterans, their families, and the communities in which they live and work.

Since coming to the Indiana Statehouse, I have made it a priority to pay attention to those men and women who have sacrificed so much to serve our country in times of peace and war.

I am particularly pleased that this event will be taking place at the start of the 2016 legislative session so legislators can hear what issues our much-deserving veterans view as priorities.

Because they have given so much, it is important that we remember them when it comes time to lend a hand to help them return to their regular lives when their military service has ended
