State Representative Terri Austin represents House District 36 which encompasses the city of Anderson and portions of Madison County. She serves as the Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, one of three elected leadership positions. She has championed legislation to reduce health care costs and prescription drug prices, and to advance the state's economic climate through technology, education, small business, and workforce development.
She has been awarded the Guardian of Small Business in 2007 and 2018 from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the Champion of Small Business from the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce in 2016, and Legislator of the Year from the Indiana Teachers of Foreign Language, the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association and the Indiana Association of Chiropractors. She received her B.S. and M.A.E. from Ball State University and her Educational Administration and Supervision Certificate from Butler University.
Her current committee assignments include Public Policy, Ranking Minority Member on Insurance and Financial Institutions, House Ethics Committee, the Rules Committee and the Legislative Council.
Terri and her husband, Michael, are the parents of two grown children. She is a member of the Anderson Rotary Club and serves on the board of Anderson’s certified technology park, Flagship Enterprise Center. Terri and Mike attend Park Place Church of God.
Rep. Terri Austin has championed legislation to help improve the lives of Hoosiers and advance the state’s economic climate through policies addressing transportation, technology, education, small business and workforce development issues. In 2005, she authored Indiana’s landmark law to protect small business from government over-regulation and bureaucratic red tape.
