State Rep. Ragen Hatcher
State Representative Ragen Hatcher is a dynamic leader representing Indiana’s 3rd House District in the General Assembly, where she has served since her election on November 6, 2018. Known for her commitment to economic growth and community development, she currently holds the role of ranking minority member of the Commerce, Small Business, and Economic Development Committee. She also contributes her expertise to the Courts and Criminal Code and Government and Regulatory Reform committees.
Hatcher's long-standing dedication to public service began with her time as an at-large member of the Gary Common Council from 2007 to 2011, and after a brief hiatus, she was re-elected to the City Council in 2015. Her experience in local government has been invaluable in shaping her legislative work at the state level.
With a strong academic background, Hatcher earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics, a Juris Doctor, a Master of Business Administration from Valparaiso University and a Master of Finance from Indiana University Kelley School of Business. She also served as a faculty member at Indiana University Northwest teaching Urban Studies and African American Studies. She brings a wealth of legal experience and municipal knowledge to her legislative role.
Hatcher comes from a legacy of historic leadership—her father, Richard G. Hatcher, made history 50 years ago as the first African American mayor of a major U.S. city. Inspired by his trailblazing example, Rep. Hatcher continues to fight for progress, equality, and opportunity in Indiana. Her passion for public service, combined with her diverse experience, ensures she remains a powerful advocate for the people of District 3.
