Rep. Chris Chyung urges the governor to publicly call on President Trump to expand war against coronavirus pandemic

INDIANAPOLIS - State Rep. Chris Chyung (D-Dyer) released the following statement in response to the COVID-19 pandemic:

“Governor Holcomb has taken steps to reduce the spread of COVID-19, including issuing a statewide stay-at-home order and a slew of Executive Orders. Now, the federal government must step in to dramatically expand testing and personal protective equipment (PPE) manufacturing. The longer we wait to make COVID-19 testing available to every American, the longer we drag out this pandemic and further away we push the recovery.

“I urge the Governor to publicly call on President Trump to expand testing capacity through laboratory investment and logistics expansion and to invoke the Defense Production Act for the production of N95 respirators, low-cost Bird Mark 7 ventilators, 60% alcohol based sanitizer, and other PPE.

“The average Hoosier probably looks out the window and senses calm amid this crisis, but our frontline healthcare heroes are going to struggle mightily for the upcoming weeks, if they aren’t already. It’s our job to act now.”
