House approves Pryor’s resolution honoring Black History Month
INDIANAPOLIS - Today, the Indiana House of Representatives unanimously approved House Resolution 10, which honors Black History Month. State Representative Cherrish Pryor (D-Indianapolis), who authored the resolution in conjunction with State Representative Vernon Smith (D-Gary), issued the following remarks after its passage:
“Each Black History Month, Hoosiers from different backgrounds across the state are compelled to come together and celebrate the diversity, contributions, achievements and strengths of our African American community,” Pryor said.
“However, this is also a time for reflection. We must use the collective voices and visions of those we honor as our inspiration moving forward, together, towards a more just and equal society for all.”
Black History Month has been celebrated since 1926. Every February, the achievements of African Americans who have played a central role in shaping history in Indiana and across the country are celebrated.
