Fleming: Infrastructure expansion highlights need for trade

News & Media, Media Releases

INDIANAPOLIS – State Rep. Rita Fleming (D-Jeffersonville) applauds the state funds to enhance infrastructure in Indiana House District 71.

Through the Community Crossings grant project, Clark County and the City of Jeffersonville are receiving $560,462.50 and $970,154.05, respectively, going toward road and bridge improvement projects in the area. Through the Next Level Trails program, Jeffersonville's Ohio River Greenway is receiving $2,359.82 to add .35 miles to the trail.

“Updated infrastructure and trails are always a benefit to any community,” Fleming said. “However, we cannot rely solely on government grants to maintain our infrastructure. The skilled tradesmen we need for these projects are retiring in greater numbers than we are recruiting, and our communities can't thrive when we don't have the manpower to keep them up and running efficiently.

“I look forward to seeing the progress made with these grant dollars,” Fleming continued, “and remain hopeful that our state will take steps to increase opportunities for young Hoosiers to be introduced to these much-needed fields.”
