INDIANAPOLIS – Members of the Indiana House today joined State Representative Vanessa Summers (D-Indianapolis) in honoring the Crispus Attucks Medical Magnet High School boys basketball team for winning the state Class 3A title.
On March 25, Crispus Attucks overcame a late 7-point deficit to defeat Twin Lakes 73-71 and win the school’s fourth state title, the first since 1959.
“This championship game was a nail-biter from beginning to end with the score being tied seven times and the lead changing hands nine times,” Summers said. “Jamal Harris scored the winning basket from the left baseline with just 0.9 seconds left in the game to give the Tigers the win.”
She noted that Crispus Attucks secured the title in front of one of the school’s most famous alums, NBA Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson, who graduated in 1956 after leading the school to back-to-back state titles.
“The Tigers were led by first-year coach Chris Hawkins who brought these boys together and guided them to victory,” said Summers. “These young men should be very proud of themselves, and are prime examples of dedicated students and outstanding basketball players.”
