STATEHOUSE - In an effort to inform Hoosiers about the groundbreaking provisions to the healthcare laws, State Rep. John Bartlett and State Sen. Jean Breaux (both D-Indianapolis) will be hosting a town hall meeting on Saturday (March 22) regarding enrollment in the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

The event will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Zion Hope Baptist Church (5950 E. 46th St.) [get a map] and will be partnered with Eskenazi Health, Organizing for Action (AFA) and ASPIN Health in order to assist with enrollment and answer any questions community members may have.

“The Affordable Care Act is a long, complex piece of legislation that we will be on hand to explain as it attempts to reform the healthcare system by providing more Americans with affordable, quality health insurance,” said Bartlett. “This reform includes new benefits, rights and protections, rules for insurance companies, tax breaks, education, new job creation and more.”

Bartlett and Breaux will be there to welcome constituents and introduce them to organizations that can demonstrate how to apply for coverage through the ACA website and will be assisting those who qualify for Medicaid. The organizations on hand will also be available to answer any questions regarding the effects of the law and the numerous options that are now offered.

“The new law contains so much more than insurance reform and includes provisions that change health care delivery, how we address chronic disease, and how we provide primary care for our workforce,” said Bartlett. “These changes are important to the very frame of our health care system and are greatly needed.”
