INDIANAPOLIS - State Representative Gail Riecken (D-Evansville) today led the Indiana House of Representatives in honoring Vietnam veterans with a House Concurrent Resolution urging the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) to name a road the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway.
The resolution honors the 187,600 men and women who served in the Vietnam War, especially the 1,534 Hoosiers who were killed in action. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway would apply to the section of highway where Indiana State Road 56 and U.S. Highway 150 converge as a single roadway between Paoli and French Lick.
“The Vietnam War veterans are often our country’s forgotten veterans,” Riecken said. “They fought an unpopular war and have not received the respect and honor they deserve. These men and women made great sacrifices for our state and our country, and honoring them with a memorial highway is a small way for us to recognize and thank them for their service.
“It is my great pleasure to lead the Indiana General Assembly in honoring these heroes with a resolution to name a portion of our highway in their honor,” she concluded.
