INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana House of Representatives today endorsed legislation (House Bill 1276) coauthored by Rep. Cherrish Pryor (D-Indianapolis) that will help townships run more efficiently.
House Bill (HB) 1276 was adopted by the Indiana House of Representatives with a vote of 96-0 and will now move forward to the Senate for further consideration.
According to Pryor, the bill allows townships to present their budget in February, rather than in January.
“We want to give townships a little extra time and flexibility to work on their budgets,” she said.
HB 1276 also allows the board to change township board salaries by majority vote, rather than by unanimous vote.
“With this added flexibility, townships can make better decisions more quickly,” she said. “The goal is to help local governments run more efficiently.”
HB 1276 is supported by the Indiana Townships Association as well as the State Board of Accounts.
