INDIANAPOLIS - State Rep. Mara Candelaria Reardon (D-Munster) said Griffith Public Schools will receive $150,000 from the state to reward teachers who received high evaluations.
The funding is part of a $10 million Excellence in Performance for Teachers grant established by the Indiana General Assembly during the 2011 session.
“I am pleased to see Griffith Public School’s dedicated teachers recognized and rewarded,” said Candelaria Reardon. “The state must also show its commitment to public education through adequate funding at all levels, so today’s students will become Indiana’s capable and well-educated leaders of tomorrow.”
The Indiana Department of Education will recommend Griffith Public Schools and 39 other school and district recipients for the grant money to the State Budget Committee. Grant funding may only be used to reward teachers evaluated as “highly effective” and “effective.”
