INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana House of Representatives has passed legislation cosponsored by State Representative Phil GiaQuinta (D-Fort Wayne) that establishes the Commission on Education Interim Study Committee to focus on Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) matters.
The committee would study the governance and operations of Purdue regional campuses, particularly IPFW, to determine how to run the university more effectively.
“Some people have ideas that would make IPFW more independent,” GiaQuinta explained. “Maybe they will work, maybe they won’t. The purpose of this committee is to study the issues and explore different approaches to improving the university for its students, faculty, staff, and the community as a whole.
“Regional campuses have their own concerns,” he continued. “We just want to make sure everyone’s voice is heard.”
Senate Bill 98 passed through the House 93-1 and will return to the Senate with amendments. The bill also was sponsored by State Rep. Kathy Heuer (R-Columbia City).
